A great weekend at The British Masters this past few days and it was superb to see so many top players in action. Who would hold their nerve down the stretch? Which player would find another patch of heather? Who'll ultimately become crowned, British Masters Champion 2018.
Despite the massive changes in weather, with beautiful sunshine on Saturday to a day of drizzle, wind and heavy rain on the final Sunday, it was a joy to be there.
Huge congratulations to England's Eddie Pepperell, who led from Day Two. Having recorded an impressive Ace on the Par 3 9th on the opening day, he also holed out on the 11th on the final day for an eagle. Looking back, these two shots certainly had significant value come the final few holes.
With a three shot lead walking off the 14th over Alex Bjork, we watched as Eddie bogeyed the 15th, as his chip from the fringe came up a little short. Another bogey on the 16th as his drive just found the edge of the heather meant he had two to play with a one shot lead. Pars from both players on the 17th meant it was a case of matching Bjork on the last!
Having to possibly make a birdie to force a play off, Bjork gave that drive on the 18th a little 'extra'! He subsequently found the rough (we've all done it, and I wonder what was going through Eddie's mind at that point)? Cool as a cucumber, he unleashed his drive down the fairway.
With Bjork's second finding the bunker (with a cruel lie), the drama was still not over as Pepperell pulled his second into the left-side trap.
Well the rest is history... Eddie got up and down for par whilst Bjork had to settle for a bogey 5. Well done Eddie Pepperell, digging deep and channelling the right thoughts and emotions when it mattered. Here he is, striding down the 17th, knowing that his destiny was in his own hands (or mittens!... well it was wet & cold)!

With an amazing summer of glorious weather, all the golfing Majors are out of the way and The Ryder Cup decided. Here at The Mind Zone we’ve been reflecting. We've looked at performances, successes and improvements of golfers who have spent time with us this year so far.
We’ve had team victories, both mens and ladies teams, and individual success. in addition, Club Champions in Essex and Suffolk, medals, cup wins and handicap reductions - so a good year, it must be said!
We're also busy planning for next year and that planning process starts right now! We'd very much welcome any feedback that you have in terms of success for you and in particular how you have used some of the tips and techniques into your own game.
All in all, NOW is the time to start to improve your approach to the game, with winter matches, singles and pairs beckoning, together with swindles and society matches.
Always nice to speak to Tour Golfers about what 'drives' them and it was a pleasure to catch up with 2018 Ryder Cup Captain Thomas Bjorn at The British Masters and congratulate him on winning the Ryder Cup in Paris.
What was discussed about the win? Well, perhaps I'll save that for the next Mind Zone session!
As we head into the autumn and winter, we wish you good golfing!
All the very best,
Gary & David
