How Important is a Vice Captain?

When Ian Poulter made himself unavailable for the upcoming Ryder Cup, (whether he could have been an automatic selection or one of Darren Clarke’s ‘Wild Cards’ we’ll never know), Clarke immediately selected ‘The Postman’ as one of his vice-captains. When you consider the importance that Poulter has had in the Ryder Cups he has previously played in, it isn’t any wonder why! Cast your mind back to The Miracle in Medinah, in 2012, when the Europeans were really up against it, and Poulter started to sink those long putts…. that was most certainly a key moment, giving belief and confidence throughout the whole team.. the rest, as they say, is history!

Even with Poulter not being on the course, you can just imagine his enthusiasm and positive attitude becoming infectious throughout the team. Good luck Europe, and here’s to a GREAT Ryder Cup!
