Who’s been in the Mind Zone on tour this year?
With the culmination of The Race to Dubai now concluded, a huge CONGRATULATIONS to Francesco Molinari, 2018 Champion! Definitely in the Mind Zone. What a year, Frankie has had. Clocking up the BMW Championship at Wentworth in May. The Open Championship at Carnoustie in July. The Quicken Loans Trophy followed on the PGA Tour. Then the record-breaking 5 out of 5 points at The Ryder Cup in September. Whilst he wasn’t quite on his ‘A’ game in Dubai this weekend, he did enough to earn his first ‘Race to Dubai’ title. Simply awesome. Simply Mind Zone!
Consider that Francesco is not a ‘New kid on the block’, he’s 36 now, and has been on the tour for a good few years, along with his talented brother, Eduardo. In fact, looking back to those early years, Francesco was somewhat in the shadow of his brother. But then came 2018… and that is now written in history. Therefore, demonstrating an incredible Mind Zone.
Another tour player who has had a tremendous weekend is Danny Willett. Because he has not only suffered missed cuts and injury since his last win, The Masters in 2016, but had been written off by many. We still find it unfair that he is often labelled as the guy that won The Masters by default from Jordan Spieth! He won it fair and square, by posting the lowest score! A great Mind Zone!
It seems it is also a month or so of the under-dog…. which is a strange thing to say about a former Number One! Lee Westwood securing his first win since 2014 at The Nedbank Golf Challenge, in Sun City, SA. Winning by three shots, very well played Lee. Is it all in the Mind that he allegedly ‘can’t putt’?!
Another former Number One and arguably the Greatest player of all time (cue the opinions)… Tiger Woods… doing at The Tour Championship on the PGA Tour, what many thought they would never see again.. a Tiger win! Always a strong, strong Mind!
Matt Kuchar had a piece of the action at The Shriners Hospitals for Children Open in Mexico, and how can we forget Ian Poulter, winner of the Houston Open 2018. Paul Casey too, at The Valspar Championship, so how much more evidence do you want?
What we are saying here, is that regardless of previous history, if you enter a competition, then what is stopping you winning?
Next time you enter your local club comp, swindle or society day, then just go with the attitude to enjoy the experience, enjoy the golf and let the score take care of itself. Sometimes those wins come at the most unexpected times, so why can’t it be you?
